Socialization project reflection
Mask: What are you most proud of about your mask? Why?
I am most proud of the way that I combined the concepts in my essay to think of creative symbols for my mask. All of the symbols make sense in relation to the essay, which I think was a vital piece. I came up with mainly 4 ideas/symbols that explained the points of my essay just by looking at it. On my mask, I painted the symbol for women, a world, positive and negative words relating to girls and their socialization, and tears. Obviously the symbol for women ties into my essay because my whole essay focuses on teenage girls. I felt like the world was a good representation of my essay because in it I focus on not just how teenage girls are socialized, but on how they are socialized differently in various parts of the world. Finally, I used the positive/negative words and the tears to explain how much teenage girls’ socialization can hurt them, but also how it can lift them up. Quote: Quote the section of your essay that you are most proud of and describe, in detail, why you are proud of it. The part in my essay that I am most proud of is probably the conclusion. I love this part in my essay because I feel like I effectively wrap up the essay and also explain my thoughts. In this section of my essay I talk about how while the socialization of most teenage girl in the U.S. can be twisted and negative, it is better than the socialization of teenage girls in places like the Middle East. Some of the countries in the Middle East need to learn how to socialize their girls in a way that strengthens them instead of suppressing them. I am proud of my conclusion because in it I feel like I found a way to say exactly what I am thinking, which is what I strive for whenever I write an essay. Biggest Take-away: What will you remember from this project? Why? The thing I will probably remember the most about this project is the exhibition. Over the course of three hours I had to explain my mask and my essay around 20 times. The first couple times I presented I stumbled over my words a little bit, but as the night went on I got better and better at articulating my thoughts, and I developed a routine. Even though I thought the night was a little boring, I think it really helped me improve my presentation skills, and I will remember the night as the night that my voice got hoarse from talking so much. Habit of Heart and Mind: Which habit of heart and mind do you need to work on in your next project to get better at Project Based Learning? Why do you need to improve and how will that Habit of Heart and Mind help you? On my next project, I think that I need to improve on being an advocate for myself. At the first exhibition I felt like I could have explained my point of view a little better, especially the first few times that I presented. It kind of felt like the viewers of my project almost understood what I was trying to say, but not quite. If I can learn better to advocate for myself and my ideas, people will understand my projects more completely and I will get positive feedback. |
