I chose to do my mask project on how teenage girls in the U.S. and especially myself have been socialized more positively than how teenage girls in some foreign countries have been socialized. I feel like I have been socialized to be strong and independent, and to have an outlook on life and society that recognizes its flaws and its positive qualities so that I am not affected as negatively. On my mask, the symbols I used to represent my essay were a world, tears, positive and negative words relating to my socialization, and the girl symbol. The tears symbolize women's suffering while the apple symbol represents the media and how it affects and socializes us. The rest of the symbols are pretty self explanatory. Learning and creating projects about society and my socialization has helped me remember my values and why I see the world the way I do. Hopefully I can continue to keep this positive outlook for the rest of my life, and I know remembering this project will help me do just that.
